Each category will be ranked 1 (poor) through 5 (excellent) and the catalog, website and overall company will be ranked separately.

This article will be taking a look at Forestfarm.

Number of Plants and Pictures: Rating 4. Forestfarm catalog only has photos on the front and back covers of the catalog which brought the rating down but the fact that the catalog is 500 pages long is amazing. It is a plant lovers dream full of shrubs, trees and plants you’ll never see in a smaller, more colorful catalogs.

Plant Descriptions and Cultivation Information: Rating 4. All the necessary information is included in the catalog by using abbreviations which can be somewhat confusing if you don’t remember what they stand for. A key on the back page explains everything.

Gardening Tips and Other Catalog Features: Rating 5. The Forestfarm catalog not only manages to include several hundred plants but also customer testimonial, recipes, gardening tips, quotes and more.

Prices, Discounts or Garden Packages: Rating 4. Forestfarm prices are very reasonable and they usually have 3 sizes available, a tube which is the smallest size but has deeper root systems, a 1 gallon and a 5 gallon size. This author couldn’t find any pre-set garden packages but with so many landscaping plants and shrubs offered that would be difficult to organize.

An interesting feature on the website is that you can search plants by categories like “Basket-Making Plants”, “Cutting Flowers”, and “Bonsai Suitable”. Gardeners might miss seeing educational articles on the website as other nursery sites sometimes include, but with so many plants to look at that is soon forgotten.

Years in Business: 32 years.

Number of Plants Total: Approximately 5,000 from the catalog in any given year and plants rotate in as they are available.

Dave’s Garden Ranking: 97/100 makes Forestfarm a Dave's Garden Watchdog Top 30 company. Peg, one of the owners of Forestfarm said, “We work very hard at customer service from taking orders to shipping options. We love plants and that tends to come through.”
